Happy Birthday...Elder Ricky

That's right....June 4th is the kids' birthday. He's 20 now. At the risk of sounding cliche, wow time flies. It has almost been a year, but more on that later. We are hoping he has a great birthday even though he'll be away from family and friends. We sent him a package which included cake mix, frosting, candles, and balloons. We are hoping he makes his own party!!
Here are a couple of pix. One is Richard and his fellow apartment mates enjoying a tropical storm from the roof of their building. Please note that while lightening is flashing they are holding onto a metal railing. Yes...I mentioned that to him.
Richard bought himself a suit for his birthday. He says that his comp made the tie, but I have my doubts about that!!

We had a great chat on the phone with Richard on Mother's Day. Needless to say, it made his mom's day. We spoke for over 2 hours about everthing under the sun, from the progress of his investigators to his post-mission plans. It was so great to hear his voice. The only drawback is that so much of his personality comes through unlike in an email or letter, it was so much more difficult to say goodbye. It will be six months before we can talk to him again.

He has had another baptism...he is still a trainer with a green comp. They are teaching some people right now who are working towards baptism as well. His Branch President and Mission President both tell him what a great job he is doing and how they have the utmost confidence in him.

His attitude remains positive and upbeat. He keeps learning and growing in the gospel, but more importantly, he relies more and more on direction and inspiration from the Spirit.
