I have a dream...
Not to take away from MLK jr. but here is a great letter from our Richard which includes a dream he had. He also referenced a talk by Orson Whitney who had a great dream of the Savior in Gethsemane. Please click on the link and check out that talk as well.
HEY FAMILY! It's a great Monday...day! It's rainy and in the 70's, a good contrast from the normal 90 degree and sunny EVERY DAY weather. Everyone loves the sun, but like you know ma, the cool rain is SO nice to feel once in a while! We had an amazing baptism yesterday, his name is Dagoberto Caravantes. He is among the most elect I've seen, as with basically every baptism we've had here. Everyone has been fully active (he's the 4th for this area) and our first, Armando Rivera, was just called to the Sunday School Presidency as a counseler. It's the best ward I've served in yet! Coral Reef comes in a close second. Do you remember Dagoberto's story? Well we have a monthly activity for the youth and their leaders where they all leave in small groups to basically tract and pass out church flyers/inviting people to have the missionaries over. We generally receive about 20 referrals from this activity and it works great. Last month (which was the 1st time we did it) an Hermana and her group contacted Dagoberto, who, the very next week, showed up to church without any follow-up! We talked to him and church and started teaching him the following week. He grew and kept his commitments, and when we gave him a "soft bapt. commitment" (ex: when you come to know that these things are true will you follow Christ's example and be baptized?) he told us that he'd have to learn more but that he really liked the church so far. Shortly thereafter we felt we needed to have the lesson in the chapel, and after having watched "the restoration" with him, we committed him to be baptized. He accepted and gave us his new catchphrase, "Dios Primero." (ha, he uses it for everything after we mentioned that we liked it! "Will you come to the fireside tonight?" "Dios primero!") He continued progressing over the past two weeks and even defended the church's name and Joseph Smith from a friend's attacks. He's awesome, definitely elect.
If you would like, wait, I commit you to read this talk. Let me find it real quick. It's SO powerful, and it's only a short section... http://www.lds.org/portal/site/LDSOrg/menuitem.b12f9d18fae655bb69095bd3e44916a0/?vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=495574536cf0c010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&hideNav=1
Click this address and scroll down to "In Gethsemane" and before you continue reading. Take a sec to read it, I love it. It's a dream/vision Orson F. Whitney had of Christ, I love the description he gives of Him. Then I'll go on to tell you a sweet dream I had.
It was Pres. Reynolds, myself, and some others. We were in what looked like a church room in some building. There were no windows, and the room was dimly lit. Either someone mentioned it or I just knew it, but Christ was coming and we were to be special witnesses of Him. I remember thinking a thousand times if I was ready to live with that kind of knowlegde and responsibility. Then he came, it was strange, it was like a ball of light that grew brighter until we couldn't see the detail of any object, then he came. (it was so intense!) I remember seeing Him and hearing Him speak. I woke up and it felt very real. I thought you'd like to hear that, it made me think of Orson F. Whitney's dream as well. It's strange how real He is, that he and Heavenly Father are in some corner of the universe right now speaking and living. Well it's time to read a few!
Have a great week and I love you all!
love, Richard
